Illustrating Biblical Archaeology, the ancient world in general and recreating the ancient past in images has become a science in itself. Images of ancient Israel, ancient Egypt, Babylon, Greece and Rome we create to catch a glimpse at our past need to be grounded in sound research and impartial scholarship if we are to gain a more thorough understanding of where we come from and, perhaps, where we are going.
Balage Balogh was born in Budapest, Hungary. He attended art school in Budapest. As an immigrant he settled in New York in 1989 then he traveled extensively in the Orient. Having relocated to Gainesville, Florida he traveled some more even more extensively in the Mediterranean, the Middle East and the Orient keeping his eyes and the camera lens open.
Upon returning to Gainesville, Florida in 1996 he put his art training seriously to work and began painting, a preoccupation from the depths of which he has not emerged ever since. He lived in Israel for a couple of years and, always deeply fascinated by ancient history, the Bible and archaeology, he began working with archaeologists and scholars to recreate the ancient past. He is frequently engaged in museum and illustration projects for books such as “A Guide to Jerusalem”, “The World of the New Testament”, “The World of the Old Testament”, “Excavating Jesus” “The Jesus Dynasty” and others.
He also works with Baltimore and Washington DC designers to create high end custom murals that range from decorative scroll painting to large, sophisticated landscape murals for a range of interiors. He provides hand painted solutions to any surface in the home or business based on an understanding of color, composition and ambiance. Custom abstract paintings are also available.
